In a surprise announcement on July 3, Microsoft and Arrowhead Game Studios confirmed that Helldivers 2 will launch on Xbox Series X/S on August 26, bringing the acclaimed co-op shooter to Microsoft’s platform over a year after its debut on PS5 and PC. Notably, the Xbox version will feature full cross-play support, allowing players to team up with friends on PlayStation 5 and Steam.

Cross-Play Confirmed, but Cross-Progression Still Unclear

While cross-platform play will unite all three versions of Helldivers 2, the status of cross-progression remains uncertain. Currently, progress does not carry over between PC and PS5, making it unlikely that Xbox players will see the feature at launch.

Xbox Game Pass Requirement and Preorder Details

As an online-only title, Helldivers 2 will require an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription to play on Microsoft’s consoles. Preorders are now live on the Microsoft Store, offering both the Standard Edition and the Super Citizen Edition, which includes bonus in-game content.

Following player feedback, the Super Citizen Edition has been updated to replace the Steeled Veterans Warbond with a Warbond Token, allowing players to redeem any Premium Warbond of their choice. Warbonds function as permanent unlocks, providing weapons, armor, and cosmetics that players can earn at their own pace—unlike traditional battle passes.

A Rocky Road to Expansion

Helldivers 2 faced controversy earlier this year when Sony initially mandated a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for PC players, leading to backlash and regional restrictions. However, Sony reversed the decision on June 13, restoring access in affected regions. The upcoming Xbox release marks another major step in the game’s growing reach.
